Building a comprehensive cyber resilience strategy

Security MEA speaks with Brandon Bekker, Managing Director, Mimecast MEA on utilizing the GITEX platform to show how organizations can build a comprehensive cyber resilience strategy for email.

Is this your first time at GITEX Technology Week or have you participated before? If yes, what were your takeaways from last year’s event?

This will not be the first year that GITEX has participated at GITEX, however it will be the first time that we will have a standalone presence. Last year, GITEX gave Mimecast an unrivalled ICT marketing platform to introduce and demonstrate its products, solutions and services to the region and increase the visibility of our cloud-based email security, archiving and continuity solutions. The event also gave us an opportunity to reach out and interact with our partners, both existing and potential customers, as well as with individual experts. The live hacks we performed at the stand last year was extremely successful.

Why did you choose to participate in GITEX Technology Week 2017?

GITEX has evolved over the last 37 years to become the single most powerful and influential event for tech innovations in the region and Dubai has become the world’s gateway for tech transformation. Participation at the event is the perfect way in which we can reach out to our partners, and existing and potential customers. GITEX provides us with a gateway to the fast-growth in Middle East, Africa, and South Asia markets, and a global platform for sharing knowledge and innovations from startups to well established industry leaders.

Do you have standalone presence at the event or will you be showcasing with your partner(s)?

Mimecast will have its own stand at GITEX 2017. Mimecast is exhibiting at Stand D1-42 in Hall 1.

What are you showcasing at GITEX Technology Week 2017?

Mimecast’s focus for GITEX 2017 is to show how organizations can build a comprehensive cyber resilience strategy for email. We plan to make visitors aware of the top cyberattack techniques being adopted by cybercriminals and demonstrate how to defend against these attacks and minimize human errors. Organizations struggle to offer consistent security training to their employees, if training is offered at all. We aim to educate existing and potential customers on the importance of conditioning employees to recognize phishing email and to identify and report attacks to security teams, to minimize business impact.

Mimecast will showcase the cloud-based email security services and capabilities of Targeted Threat Protection including Internal Email Protect.

Mimecast’s security experts will discuss the top email attack strategies used by cybercriminals and demonstrate how they work by performing a series of live hacks at the stand throughout the 5-day event.

What technology trends have you seen in the Middle East and Africa market?

A trend we see in the Middle East is that businesses have started to understand the sheer risk that their email systems pose. In all aspects of our work and personal lives we depend on technology, and on email in particular. Over 112 billion business emails are sent each day around the world. Email attacks will become more common and more damaging and it is essential that executives – the C-suite in particular – understand the risks and take action. They need to engage with email security planning and preparation, and allocate time, focus and budget.

Do you have any plans to launch any new products, solutions or technologies at GITX Technology Week this year?

Mimecast will make a major Global announcement of a new solution they will offer during GITEX.
