Dubai Police announces Capture The Flag cybersecurity challenge

Dozens of professional and amateur young people in the information technology, digital applications and programming field are poised to the launch of second version of the “Capture The Flag”, the cybersecurity challenge, to demonstrate their technical capabilities against real simulation scenarios of hacking and cyber-attacks, which  takes place on February 22 and 23 at the Hub Zero complex in City Walk Dubai.

HE Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police,

Dubai Police aims to enhance skills and experiences of cyber security among young people and future generations, stimulate scientific curiosity and raise the ability to deal with e-challenges, andinstilthe concepts of cybersecurity among participants of schools and universities interested in modern technologies and applications.

The “Capture the flag” challenge attracts IT professionals and amateurs in the fields of science and technology; who wish to highlight their skills and abilities in responding to cyber-attacks and crimes, using the latest software technology and digital tools.

The event is sponsored by a number of companies with deep experience in cybersecurity such as Recorded Future, Gulf Business Machines, Spire Solutions,InfoWatch Gulf, to promote cyber awareness among all segments of society, especially young people, on the importance of knowledge dissemination. Brigadier Jamal Salem AlJallaf, director of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Dubai Police, commented on the launch of the 2ndversion of the “Capture the Flag “challenge, “We are pleased to launch the second edition of “Capture the Flag” challenge for the second year in a row, during which we build on what was achieved in the first round of the cybersecurity challenge, which saw the participation of 30 contestants from the region. We are confident that the event, which is being witnessed by professionals and amateurs in the field of information technology and cybersecurity, will sharpen the minds of the contestants, motivate generations of young people and increase their knowledge of topics and issues related to the world of information technology and its developments.”

During the CTF challenge, contestants compete in a virtual environment along the two-day cybersecurity challenge, taking place on February 22-23, 2019 at Hub Zero, City Walk, Dubai. Awarding ceremony to be hosted by Dubai Police with souvenirs and giveaways for all participants comprising 3 prizes, 1st Prize AED 20,000, 2nd Prize AED 10,000, 3rd Prize AED 5,000.
